All About The Mission

THE "TITUS ROOM"

For a number of months now our day chapel has been out of use (in fact, its been used to store stuff in!). This has now all changed. In March 2013 we have cleared the room and revamped it to be a quiet room for teaching and prayer. The room has been repainted and now looks lovely and light and bright. We have also obtained a fantastic set of leather office sofas to provide comfortable seating. Coupled with a coffee table, a palm plant, and two verses from the Letter to Titus painted on the walls, the new 'Titus Room' is ready for use. We have commissioned a local young photographer (who once was a member of our youth group) to produce some pictures of the church to be turned into canvases to be displayed on two of the walls, and we also hope to invest in a wall-mounted TV so that we can use multi-media in the room. It is our hope that the Titus Room will be a great space for prayer and teaching the Christian faith, as well as being made available for the wider community to use as a meeting room.

CHURCH OPEN DAY IS A HUGE SUCCESS!

On Saturday 23rd February 2013 we held a church open day at St Tim's. We hired a bouncy castle, put on free hot dogs and pancakes, and showcased some of our Tim's Tots activities. We also put together a 'Search the Church' quiz for kids to find out more about some of the things we have in church, such as the font, the communion table, the organ, and the cross. Our aim was to invite our local community to come along, have some fun and food, and find out more about the gospel. The day was a great success with over 100 people coming along. We gave out a good number of Bibles and other Christian books. We are continuing to pray that the Lord will work in the hearts of the people of Hemlington as we seek to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to them.

"PROJECT C's" UNDERWAY!

On 26th July 214 copies of the New Testament were distributed to homes on the C's estate. We are praying for those who received them that they might read God's word and come to faith in Christ.

BIBLE GIVE-AWAY 2012: "PROJECT C's"

At the end of July 2012 we are starting a new phase in our plans to give away copies of the Bible. "Project C's" aims to give a copy of the ESV Outreach New Testament to the 214 homes that make up the C's estate (each road name on this estate begins with the letter C). We are putting together an envelope which will contain a New Testament, a Christianity Explored gospel leaflet, an invitation to a Christianity Explored course, and a short letter introducing the church. The C's estate is the estate nearest to St Tim's. It is administered by Habinteg Housing Association, and is made up of flats, maisonettes, bungalows and houses (from one to five bedrooms). The residents who live in these homes are quite diverse: single people, families and retired couples. There are also a number of disabled persons living in special wheelchair accessible ground-floor flats and bungalows. It is our hope to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the people closest to our church building, and we pray that God would lead those who receive these envelopes to read the Bible and come to faith in Christ.

BIBLE GIVE-AWAY 2012

One of our aims for 2012 is to give away as many copies of the Bible as we can. We firmly believe that God speaks to us through his word in Scripture. The gospels were written so that people can read them and know with certainly the truth about who Jesus is, and that believing in him we can have life in his name. We have been giving away copies of the ESV Economy Bible outside the church and cafe on weekday mornings. This has given us a great chace to share the good news about Jesus Christ with the people of Hemlington. We aim in the last six months of 2012 to distribute copies of the ESV Outreach New Testament with a leaflet about St Tim's to every home on two of the estates nearest the church building. Our prayer is that people will read God's word and be brought to saving faith in Christ.

HEMLINGTON FAMILY FUN DAY 2012

We had a fantastic day on Saturday 7th July in Hemlington as St Tim's played host to the Hemlington Family Fun Day for the second year running. This event is run in conjunction with the Community Council and drew support from community group across the area. Organisations held stalls in the Parish Centre, the cafe was open, we had fairground rides and bouncy castles by the church, and Rob and Adam ran a hot dog stall. It was also a great chance for us to share the gospel by giving out copies of the Bibles and other leaflets. We also sold 62 bottles of water in aid of the 'Turn on the Tap' appeal (run by Samaritan's Purse). We are very grateful to the Lord for keeping the rain off for the event (even though we waterproofed our gazebo the night before!). We really hope that this year's Christmas in Hemlington will be equally good, and we hope we can continue our outreach work at this event too!

'LONDON PRIDE' - JUBILEE COCKNEY NIGHT 2012

On 2nd June 2012 we held our celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. We had an evening of cockney entertainment, which included singing around the 'joanna,' a London quiz incorporating a cockney rhyming slang round, and other silly games such as 'pin the crown on the Queen.' Everyone enjoyed a pie and peas supper before getting their raffle tickets for the 'Right Royal Raffle' (prizes included a tea cosy, packets of tea bags, a cup and saucer with a picture of the Queen on it, and a pack of Union Jack tissues). We remembered the Queen's commitment to the Christian faith and read part of her 2011 Christmas Message in which she made reference to the gospel of Jesus Christ and the salvation we have through believing in his name. We ended the evening by saying a prayer for the Queen taken from the Accession Service in The Book of Common Prayer.
